Preventing peri-implantitis: How treatment planning decisions can save you from the ultimate complication in implant dentistry
Dealing with peri-implantitis is depressingly difficult – indeed, there are no good predictable solutions. This presentation will focus on how to make smart decisions during diagnosis and treatment planning and describe sound treatment techniques to dramatically reduce the risk of peri-implantitis. The presentation will cover implant surface and design, screw-retention, cement-retention, and the critical treatment planning decisions that facilitate maintenance of peri-implant bone loss over the lifetime of the patient.

- Describe the key ingredients for maintaining crestal bone height around dental implants
- Identify common mistakes that lead to peri-implantitis and how to prevent them

Speaker:
Dr. Sreenivas Koka received DDS and MS (prosthodontics) degrees from The University of Michigan. He joined the University of Nebraska faculty in 1992, became a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics in 1995, and received his PhD in Oral Biology from the University of Nebraska in 1999. He completed specialty training in prosthodontics (dentures, partial dentures, implants) also at the University of Michigan and then received a PhD degree in Oral Biology from the University of Nebraska. In 2013, Dr. Sreenivas Koka completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In April 2021, Dr. Koka will take up the position of Dean of the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.
